10/05/2025 - M-PESA Foundation Invests KES 130 Million in Education Projects in Baringo and Bomet Counties

The projects are focused on improving education outcomes in the institutions under the Citizens of the Future Programme. 

The M-PESA Foundation is set to construct learning facilities in Baringo and Bomet counties in projects worth KES 130 million. The projects under the Citizens of the Future programme are aimed at enabling quality access to education.

The Foundation carried out a KES 40 million investment in the construction and equipping of a laboratory, ECDE classrooms, a 400-capacity multipurpose hall, renovation of existing classrooms, and administration block at Sirwa Primary School in Baringo.

Still in Baringo County, at Rift Valley Innovation Centre, the Foundation set aside KES 50 million for the constriction of a ladies’ dormitory as well as electrical and mechanical works at the institution that is aimed at boosting technical training at the institution. The learning facility will also gain from a steady supply of water from the harvesting system installed by the Foundation.

“In line with our purpose of transforming lives, we continue to collaborate with various partners, including the Ministry of Education, to invest in school renovation projects across the country, with a focus on the neediest cases,” said Joseph Ogutu, Chairman, Safaricom Foundation.

Meanwhile In Bomet County, the Foundation will pump KES 40 million into at Kimawit Primary School towards the construction and equipping of an ICT lab, science laboratory, ablution blocks for boys and girls and a 200-capacity multipurpose hall at the school.

The Foundation has undertaken similar projects in other counties including Homa Bay, Meru, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Bungoma, Lamu, Siaya, Migori and Vihiga, among others, as it continues to improve school infrastructure across the country.
