TEAMS Cable Resumption of Normal Services After First Phase of Preventive Maintenance Works at Mombasa Off-shore – January 2013

MOMBASA, 09th January 2013 …….,This is to inform our esteemed customers that NORMAL SERVICES have resumed with effect from 07:00pm, 07th January 2013, after successful completion of the first phase of the planned preventive maintenance on the TEAMS cable system. The first phase of the maintenance works which had been planned for the first two weeks of January 2013 have been completed ahead of schedule mainly due to steadily favourable weather conditions at Mombasa Off-Shore. The remaining maintenance works will not affect service. The Preventive Maintenance Works have been designed to reduce chances of cable damage by external aggressors, following the couple of cable cuts experienced by TEAMS cable at Mombasa, early last year.

It is estimated that the Preventive Maintenance Works on TEAMS cable, including costs for temporary traffic restoration via other cables during the TEAMS cable outage will about USD 5.6 Million (Kshs 480 Million), excluding loss of business as a result of heavily constrained bandwidth supply to contracted customers.

On behalf TEAMS, the Chairman, Mr. Bob Collymore would like to sincerely acknowledge the understanding and support of our esteemed customers, throughout the preventive works on the TEAMS cable. TEAMS General Manager Mr. Joel Tanui, pledges continued top quality services on the TEAMS cable, as the main mission of the Company.
