Safaricom partners with EABL and Vivo to Offer Online Shopping and Shell Loyalty On M-PESA App as Active Customers More than Double to 3 Million

M-PESA App Customers to Enjoy Free Delivery from THE-BAR by EABL and Automatic Reward Points Whenever They Fuel at Shell

 Nairobi, Kenya – 6th July 2023 … Safaricom (NSE: SCOM), East African Breweries PLC and Vivo Energy Kenya Limited have today announced a partnership to launch THE-BAR (ke.thebar.com) and SHELL CLUB Loyalty on the M-PESA Super App.

EABL’s THE-BAR app will enable consumers to shop for their favourite alcoholic drinks at Recommended Retail Prices and on top of it, enjoy free delivery anywhere in the country and make payments through the M-PESA App.

“One of our key values at EABL is that we are passionate about our consumers and therefore we use data and insights to drive growth. It is by these insights we have seen a growing share of home consumption for our brands. This has led us to launch one of its kind concierge services named THE-BAR Soiree whereby by the purchase of drinks above 80,000 KES you can unlock a free full bar set up complete with DJ with sound, Diageo World class mixologist & condiments for the ultimate party at the comfort of your home or venue of choice. The M-PESA Super App will offer THE-BAR an opportunity to grow customer awareness and enjoy targeted and personalized marketing,” said Samuel Ndunda, Channel Manager - Ecommerce at EABL.

Vivo Energy Kenya through its loyalty program, SHELL CLUB, is designed to reward customers for purchase of all Shell products.

“The entire Shell family is proud to get closer to their customers who are patrons of this great platform. By joining the program through the SHELL CLUB App on the M-PESA Super App, our customers will now automatically earn Shell Club points any time they pay through M-PESA and redeem their accumulated points at Shell stations and select vendor partners,” said Mark Senteu, Country Marketing Manager – Vivo Energy Kenya.

 The two services are set to be rolled out in coming weeks and join more than 60 other firms that are providing their services through apps hosted on the M-PESA Super App, including government parastatals and counties. Safaricom provides hosting, distribution, and marketing support to the different businesses on the App. 

“We are excited to welcome East African Breweries and Vivo Energy Kenya as partners on the M-PESA Super App. The Bar and SHELL CLUB Loyalty will provide the more than 3 million customers on the app with the increased convenience of shopping online coupled with free deliveries and more value with every purchase at all Shell stations. These partnerships are part of our goal to enable our customers to do more through the M-PESA Super App by connecting them digitally to the different businesses and services on our platform,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO – Safaricom.

More than 3 million customers use the M-PESA Super App, up from 1.2 million in April 2023. In Safaricom’s latest financial year to April 2023, the Super App processed 489 million transactions with a value of KSh. 1.3 trillion.
