Bar Sauri health centre receives KES 1 million worth of support to improve access to maternal healthcare services in Siaya County

Nairobi, 19th December 2022 … Safaricom Foundation through its Ndoto Zetu initiative has funded the installation of solar panels and donated an ultrasound machine to Bar Sauri Health Centre in Siaya County at a cost of KES 1 million.

Through the donations, the Foundation seeks to improve safe and quality maternity services to at least 40 mothers per month.

The ultrasound machine will enable the medical staff to diagnose, detect and identify possible pregnancy risks and reduce the need for mothers to travel to other hospitals for the service. The solar panels will ensure that the health centre has constant supply of electricity and can store medicines, especially vaccines at the recommended temperature.

“Through these donations, Safaricom Foundation aims to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates, encourage skilled deliveries and care through access to quality health services and reduce maternal and neo-natal complications. We believe by improving access to quality mother and child health services, we are transforming lives,” said Barack Odero, Safaricom Foundation Trustee.

Since its inception in 2019, Ndoto Zetu has reached close to 3 million Kenyans. This year, the Safaricom Foundation aims to reach a further 2 million with projects worth 100 million shillings.

Ndoto Zetu aims to support Kenyans who are keen to make an impact in their communities through social investments. Through the initiative, the foundation asks Kenyans to share their dreams and aspirations that they hope to achieve in the areas of health, education and economic empowerment.
