Librarian Walks Away With 10 Million Bonyeza Ushinde Na Safaricom Grand Prize

Dec. 18, 2012…Leading integrated communications provider, Safaricom Limited has officially handed over the Kshs.10 million to Rose Wanjiru Mbugua, the winner of the grand prize in the Kshs. 85 million Bonyeza Ushinde na Safaricom promotion. Following her lucky break, she becomes the 60th and final millionaire created by the Bonyeza Ushinde completion in its 60 day run.

Ms. Mbugua's number was randomly selected through an automated system last Saturday, making her the biggest winner in the 60 day promotion which saw four customers won Kshs.2 million each in a fortnightly draw and 56 others win Kshs.1 million each in daily draws.

Receiving the prize, Ms. Mbugua who works as a librarian in one of the parastatals in the energy sector, said she was shocked beyond belief when she received a call from the number 0729 333 333 on Saturday evening, informing her that she was the lucky Kshs.10 million winner.

"I thank God for my good fortune," exclaimed an ecstatic Ms. Mbugua upon receiving the good news. "I will never forget this moment which is definitely one of the greatest days in my life," she added.

For the mother of three, it still is too soon to say definitively how she intends to spend the money but she is toying with the idea of developing an existing property. She is also looking into making some long term investments which will hopefully set her on the path of the previously elusive prosperity.

"In the last couple of years, promotions such as Bonyeza Ushinde have helped transform the lives of Kenyans by providing them with a windfall with which to secure their futures. For those who have planned properly and invested wisely, these promotions have proved to be life changing events. And so today as I congratulate Ms. Mbugua, I am glad to note that she is thinking seriously about using her good fortune to secure the future of her family through long term investments," said Safaricom CEO, Bob Collymore.

The promotion not only served to boost SMS revenues for Safaricom which stood at Kshs.7.8 billion (3% of the total revenue) in the 2011/2012 financial year, but to also enhance greater connectivity with customers.
