For almost a year now a renowned Kenyan poet – Wamathai – has hosted a monthly event fondly known as Wamathai Spoken Word. On this night poets from all over the country get to showcase their work to like-minded wordsmiths and lyricists. The event has grown from a handful of regulars to a vibrant poetry community and now Wamathai Spoken Word has found a new home.

On Saturday the 3rd of December the Michael Joseph Centre will host Spoken Word for the second time with performances by poets and word lovers that include Wanjiku Mwaura Asali Pearl Jeremy Levinger Lonesome Bounty Kennet B Nuru Bahati Kevin Man Njoro MK Abu Sense Claude Baus Miss Soulful Ngatia Dave Ndirangu Aisha Salim Ami Mugambi Nthiga Vickie Zosi and Mark Anthony. As a special treat Alexia Waweru a participant on the currently running Alter Ego exhibition will make her big debut. You may remember her from Safaricoms Alter Ego Exhibition so be sure to come watch as she takes a step towards her dream.

Spoken Word isnt just about poetry. There will be musical performances by Elani and Afrology as well as a sneak preview of poetographs from the Koroga II Project which opens the following week. Each image in the exhibition is inspired and fused with rhythm and rhyme. The event will be held seamlessly together by the gifted hands of Anyiko Owoko and Robert Kunga.

It all begins at 4.00 p.m. and will run until 7.00 p.m. so leave your evening open. Tickets cost 300/ in advance and you can buy yours at the reception of the Michael Joseph Centre or online via www.ticketsasa.com. Tickets will also be available at the gate for 400/.
