Femenino – A Woman’s World in Music & Tales

This month we are celebrating women. Join us at the Michael Joseph Centre on the 23rd of March for Femenino – A woman’s world in music and tales. This event is for those women who want to share notes with other women and for men to learn about the womans world. There will be music dance and poetry performances by various musical artists and poets.

Lets all come together to talk about the womans world and different aspects of the life of a woman. Event will also feature a photo exhibition by Koa.

Show starts at 4:00 PM.

Performers:

Wanjiku Mwaurah: Poet and performing artist she has taken to the stage numerous times in the Kenyan poetry scene and has further been honoured to grace the Johannesburg Arts alive international festival held in Jburg Sept 2010 where she performed alongside international artiste Queen Godis NYUSA and some of the leading South African Poets like Mphutlane Wa Bofelo Qbibo Intalektual Swaziland Napo Masheane South Africa an experience she cites as Educatively entertaining.

Sitawa Wafula: She is a poet who focuses on social justice & host of a monthly poetry night in Nairobi Sitawa Ignited. Sitawa is also an Event planner & Afro-funky jewelry Designer. Shes a Feather Awards 2010 nominee Arts and also an East Africa Philanthropy Awards 2012 nominee individual category.
I use poetry as an avenue of advocacy to talk about my sexual violence ordeal and my mental health issues openly that saw me appointed as Kenyas mental health ambassador in August 2010.

Amare Poeta: Amare Poeta is a writer and a poet who is famous for her Vagina Trilogy pieces. She has performed in many events and published in several blogs. You can see her works at http://aumaj.wordpress.com/

Lele Band: An eclectic urban mix of Afro and Soul. Lele in Swahili means Mwanzo wa Ngoma the Beginning of music. Lele has set out to create a new different Afro sound that combines Rock Benga and Afro-soul. With their songs they aim to influence society positively express themselves and share their love for music.

Pitch 5: Pitch 5 is a five member gospel band that was incepted on January 9th 2011. Their purpose is to change lives and minister about the love of Christ to the community and beyond.
