What is the Safaricom Data Save Service?

This is a service which ensures that Safaricom PrePay and PostPay subscribers optimize their data speeds and browse for a longer duration.

How do I access the Safaricom Data Save Service?

The service will be available on *544# option 8: Bundle management. You will then select DATA SAVE.

How do I activate the Data Save Service?

Opt into the Service by dialing *544# and select Bundle management then Data Save then choose option 1: “save bundles by reducing speed”. You will receive the following SMS confirmation message: You have activated Data Save. You will now browse the internet at optimized speeds. You can also activate the service using the web on www.safaricom.com/account then usage.

What happens when I activate the Data Save Service?

Your internet speed will be capped/throttled to allow for longer browsing sessions.

How do I deactivate the Data Save Service?

Dial *544# and select Bundle management then choose full speeds for faster downloads. You will receive the following SMS confirmation message: You have successfully deactivated data save. You will now enjoy faster internet speeds! You can also deactivate service on www.safaricom.com/account under usage.

What happens when I deactivate the Data Save Service?

Best effort speeds will be applied when you opt-out from the Data Save Service.

Will I still receive the low bundle when I am about to exhaust my bundle?

Yes, you will still receive the low bundle notification when you are 2MB. The SMS message you will receive will appear as below: Dear customer, your data bundle is almost finished. Dial *544# to check your data bundle balance.

What will my experience be like when I activate the service?

There will be no noticeable difference in experience when using Data Save. However, downloads might take a bit longer to complete.
