You know those days when you wake up in the morning, the car is on empty and then you discover that the price of fuel has gone up?

This can be frustrating, especially when it’s the middle of the month and you had already budgeted all your money.

Don’t worry though as this may be a thing of the past due to an exciting new development!

With Kenya soon entering the exclusive club of oil producing countries by starting to transport oil from Turkana to Mombasa, Safaricom is seeking to continue its ambitions to satisfy all of its customers’ needs by entering the energy sector.

Today, on April 1st, 2017, Safaricom announces the acquisition of a fuel retailer chain, which it will rebrand in order to leverage the retailer’s more than 90 outlets across the country.

These new outlets will boost Safaricom’s presence on the ground and help the company get closer to its customers.

The new venture – named SafariOil – promises to deliver unrivalled service, partnered with quality products at significantly affordable prices, as it seeks to enter the highly profitable and competitive energy industry.april_fools_2

Some of the innovative services to expect include:

Okoa Fuel

Those who are familiar with Safaricom’s Okoa Credo, Okoa Internet, Okoa Rent and Okoa Stima already understand how this product works. Basically, next time Njaanuary bites hard, you can relax knowing that you can access fuel on credit and pay it later.

Dial-A-Ngata

This is a delivery service that seeks to address a problem faced by many motorists. Anytime you run out of fuel unexpectedly, you may dial a special USSD number to order some fuel, pay via M-PESA and it will be delivered to your location as soon as possible. Problem solved! No more embarrassing walks of shame to the nearest petrol station. This service seeks to flip the tables in the industry as it opens up more job opportunities to the hard-working deliverymen and women.

Sambaza Gas

We’ve all had those days when the cooking gas runs out at bae’s house and you just don’t want to go all the way to fetch gas. Fear no more, if you have a Safaricom line and want to be a willing sponsor, you can Sambaza Gas direct to their home by paying with M-PESA to a SafariOil station and then directing our fleet on where to deliver.

We’re excited. Are you?
