KAMA KAWAIDA - Safaricom’s East Africa Roaming Service
Roaming is the service that enables a mobile phone customer, while outside the geographical coverage area of their home network, to access the portfolio of services they subscribe to while at home. The suite of services that can be accessed include voice, SMS and Data services.
The Kama Kawaida service ensures that Safaricom subscribers enjoy extended and seamless connectivity as they travel anywhere within East Africa via an established free-roaming zone. The free-roaming zone enables Safaricom subscribers to roam for free when travelling within the following three East African countries: To enhance the free-roaming zone’s seamless connectivity anywhere within East Africa, Safaricom has partnered with MTN Uganda, Uganda Telkom (UTL), Vodacom Tanzania and MTN Rwanda to offer their subscribers the most affordable, convenient and reliable way to communicate.
The Kama Kawaida service varies from Safaricom’s International Roaming service in that: - It is available to all Safaricom PrePay and PostPay subscribers.
- Subscribers do not need to migrate to any special roaming tariffs.
- Subscribers do not require prior roaming access.
- Subscribers receive incoming calls for FREE.
- For PostPay subscribers, no roaming deposit is required.
- PrePay subscribers can top-up their phones using both Safaricom and partner networks’ recharge vouchers (scratch cards) via Safaricom’s PrePay Roaming Top-up service.
When travelling in East Africa, whether for business or pleasure, your phone will automatically pick up the MTN Uganda, Uganda Telecom (UTL), Vodacom Tanzania or MTN Rwanda network based on the visited country. Should another network be selected, you will need to manually select any of the preferred networks above to enjoy the special roaming tariffs.
