PREPAID BLACKBERRY - FAQs

  • How do I activate the service once the 30 days expire?

To register for the prepaid blackberry service, the subscriber will send a blank SMS to shortcode 210 on their handset, where upon they will be charged Kshs. 1,999/=.

The request will be processed and upon successful registration the subscriber will receive a message confirming their blackberry subscription. The subscriber will be provisioned and given an expiry date 30 days from the date of provisioning.

To extend the duration of the subscription for the prepaid Blackberry service, the subscriber need only send a blank SMS to shortcode 210 on their handset and follow the same process that is described in Registration above.

To enquire about their current expiry date, an already registered subscriber will dial *211# on their handset. Their expiry date will be presented to them along with the instructions for registration/extension of subscription.

N.B: It is important to note the USSD interface is simply for querying purposes while the SMS interface is responsible for the charging and actual provisioning

  • If I use the Prepaid sim card in another handset (non- BlackBerry) or in a modem, will I be able to get unlimited usage?
No, you will not get unlimited internet and email usage when you are not using the BlackBerry device. When using any other device, you will need to use the "safaricom" APN and you will be charged the prevailing data rates.
  • What happens if I sends the command to *211# twice?
The subscriber expiry date will be increased by another 30 days.
  • If I have another BlackBerry device, can I use it to connect to the internet?
Yes, as long as the APN- "blackberry.net" has been provisioned on the line profile and the correct settings have been configured on the device. You will need to confirm this first with Safaricom Customer Care.
  • Are there any termination fees or contracts?
No, once you buy the device you can use the service on a prepaid basis without any contracts.
  • If I send a command to *211# erroneously, can I get refunded?
No as the process of activation requires you to verify whether you want the transaction to proceed or not.
  • Can I use the Safaricom APN on the BlackBerry device?
No, you will have to use the blackberry.net APN if you want to connect to the internet.
